I have updated the version of clamav on cygwin.com to 0.80-1.
This has now a shared version of the library and several updates.

Clam AntiVirus - GPL anti-virus toolkit
This distribution was built without the Windows UI.
You might want to use clamavwin (python wxWindows) instead.

News:
Better JPEG exploit verification, faster base64 decoding, support for 
GNU tar files, liminates possible false positive alerts in UPX/FSG
compressed files and clarifies behaviour of default actions in clamd and
freshclam.
Please add the following lines to freshclam.conf:

    DNSDatabaseInfo current.cvd.clamav.net
    DatabaseMirror db.XY.clamav.net
    DatabaseMirror database.clamav.net

DNSDatabaseInfo enables database and software version verification 
through DNS TXT records, and the second database mirror acts as a 
fallback in casea connection to the first mirror fails for some reason.

Installation (as service):

The freshclam cronjob and clamd have to be configured manually.

/etc/rc.d/init.d/clamd install
/etc/rc.d/init.d/clamd installcron
/etc/rc.d/init.d/clamd start

Problems:

* If the service doesn't start, check why the SYSTEM user may not run 
clamd. Most likely some file permission problems on the PID, SOCK, LOG 
or CONF file. Search the cygwin mailinglist for "sysbash" - opening a 
bash under the SYSTEM  account via AT.

* If the service fails to restart (stop fails), may best suggestion
so far is to reboot. :(
