Removing the Console Windows

I tried compiling a simple hello world program (taken from Windows 95
Programming for Dummies), with the following command line:

gcc -Wl,--subsystem,windows -o helloworld helloworld.o all of the
appropriate libriaries.

However, a console window showed up. Does anyone know what I'm doing
wrong here, and what needs to be changed?

Thanks in advance.

Ares out.
