Run 'mount' with no arguments to see what mode the directory or drive is
mounted as (text or binary).  If the nearest mount point (or /cygdrive if
there is no appropriate mount point) is binary mode, a newline character
(LF) _is_ the standard line terminator.  If the nearest mount point is text
mode then there may be a problem with g77, but more details will be needed
to investigate it.
