Re: Cygwin: Open or Closed System? (was: two problems with cygwin's zip)

regarding potentially inflammatory statements...
i admit to a certain flavorful nature in my expressions. but i
believe that when the context is examined, i am never directing these at
a particular person. i don't think i'm directing them at a particular
product or part of cygwin either. i'm mainly trying to offer the
"absurd consequence" of the logic i am describing immediately above the
colorful bits. i am trying to draw down closer scrutiny at the
potential implications of investing in a particular viewpoint.
it seems that this approach is getting across better with some people
compared to other people. that's just the nature of people probably.
luckily, there is no law dictating "how" one thinks, although of course
that leads to there being no absolutely common ground for expression.
damned tower of babel syndrome. and i am definitely a big fan of
thinking for myself. but i have tragically failed in raising awareness
of the issues if people got the impression (1) that i was making harsh
remarks about them personally, or (2) that i was making harsh remarks
about a product that i do indeed value quite a bit (cygwin), or (3) if
the point itself wasn't established by the consequence due to a defect
in either the reasoning or the applicability to the situation.
so, my personal feistiness may have gotten in the way of clear
discussion. i'm sorry about that, but it probably won't just go away
entirely. i will do my best to contain it and keep it non-toxic.
thanks,
fred.

What an abyss of uncertainty, whenever the mind feels overtaken by itself;
when it, the seeker, is at the same time the dark region through which it
must go seeking, and where all its equipment will avail nothing. Seek? More
than that: create. It is face to face with something which does not yet exist,
to which it alone can give reality and substance, which it alone can bring into
the light of day.
