Yes, I was afraid of that.  I've been pruning it for a month now, trying
to get it down to a reasonable size.

Would you believe it's about a fourth the size of the full program?  :/ 
I'll try to cut it down more then... the problem only comes up when I
combine sockets and pthreads, both of which take a lot of code to
handle.  I'm not sure exactly what I can eliminate yet.
