I'm using vim 6.1 as well, obviously and changing the hidden attribute
doesn't change the behaviour of vim:
$ vi .cshrc # change, save works
$ attrib +H .cshrc
$ vi .cshrc # change, save works
$ attrib -H .cshrc
$ vi .cshrc # change, save works
There's another permission problem somewhere.
