Sure.  Check the email archives for discussions of this w.r.t. Cygwin
on CDROMs.  The principal is the same for any removable media.  Of course,
RW media makes it easiest, since there's no need to partition the 
installation based on read-only/writeable files.  Zip may be too slow though.
