  Ok, just to be certain I checked it myself, (I have the same gcc/gdb
versions), and it worked fine:

/tmp/debug $ cat foo.c
#include <stdio.h>

int main ()
{
printf("hello");
return 0;
}

/tmp/debug $ gcc -o foo -g -O2 foo.c
/tmp/debug $ gdb ./foo.exe

  Hmm, perhaps you are experiencing the kind of problems that can be caused by
security/firewall/antivirus software? Do you have any of
Norton/MacAffee/Symantec antivirus, Logitech webcam software, Kerio, Agnitum
or ZoneAlarm Personal Firewall, Iolo System Mechanic/AntiVirus/Firewall,
LanDesk, or Windows Defender installed, that is on the laptop but not on the
other machine?

    cheers,
