Re: ssh annoyance

Jon Ericson wrote:
When I log into a remote machine using ssh X11 forwarding, Vista pops
up a box complaining about a process that died unexpectedly. Once I
dismiss the box, everything works as expected.

Specifically, the message reads:

sh.exe has stopped working

So it's not ssh itself that died, but some sub-process.

The problem details textbox reads:

I notice the problem occurs when I use the **-Y** option to enable X11
forwarding in an X terminal under Vista.

I see a similar but not identical problem was reported earlier:
<http://sourceware.org/ml/cygwin/2008-03/msg00398.html>. I'm also
aware that Vista is not supported and that the problem has an easy
work around. But I wonder if there is a deeper issue with OpenSSH,
X11, cygwin, sh.exe, or something else that could be resolved.

Nothing in 'ssh' or Cygwin uses comctl32. My WAG would be AV/anti-spyware software is causing this.
