Hi there,
I'm having difficulty installing the latest version of Cygwin in WinXP
SP3. I downloaded setup.exe from the Cygwin website, and
double-clicked it. I accepted the default options (except for setting
my install directory to D:\cygwin, because D:\ is my main system
partition), and chose a mirror I hoped would be fast. Then I selected
a few optional components I wanted to install (curl and gvim, for
instance) and let setup do its thing. Before reaching the final screen
(i.e. while still on the screen that shows progress meters), I got an
error alert box. I didn't make a note of the wording at that point,
but I'm pretty sure it was exactly the same as the alert box I now get
whenever I try to run cygwin:
Alert box title: bash.exe - Unable To Locate Component
Alert box text: This application has failed to start because
cygreadline6.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix
this problem.
I've looked at the mailing lists and FAQs, and they suggest, in cases
like this, searching the package list for the missing dll and
reinstalling the relevant package. However, going to
http://cygwin.com/cgi-bin2/package-grep.cgi?grep=cygreadline6.dll
yields zero results.
At this point, I'd be grateful for some help getting Cygwin running!
Thanks,
Sam
