Kludgey perhaps, but handy for me.  If I want to give a copy of one of
my fortran console apps to a colleague, I can simply recompile it with
-mno-cygwin. No knowledge of Windows is required on my part. I'll be
sorry to see that feature go.

Even if I promise to replace it with a fully-fledged and even more importantly, *correct* cross-compiler? ;-)

Sounds great, as long as it is simple enough for a dumb engineer who is not a programmer.
