- Cygwin is a POSIX emulation layer.  Please use slashes, not backslashes:

  http://cygwin.com/cygwin-ug-net/using.html#using-pathnames

- The default prefix for drive letters is /cygdrive, not /cygwin:

  http://cygwin.com/cygwin-ug-net/using.html#cygdrive

- Using the UNC notation with two leading slashes for network paths is
  allowed in Cygwin.  Examples are throughout the entire User's Guide
  section:

Did I mention the User's Guide?
