Yesterday, I updated Cygwin on three machines: one Win7 and two WinXP. Since then, I have had occasional problems connecting to the WinXP machines. So far, I have not had any issues connecting to the Win7 machine. Windows' application event logs contain the message "service `sshd' failed: signal 11 raised" at the times of the connection failures. /var/log/sshd.log has no relevant information; on one machine it is simply an empty file. Prior to this update, any connection failures were rare, and were the result of user error or an offline machine. These failures appear to be something else. I have not been able to determine how to reproduce the problem, but it has happened multiple times, and at least once with each of three ssh versions I have on hand. I routinely connect to these machines from a Debian machine, with ssh version "OpenSSH_5.5p1 Debian-6+squeeze2, OpenSSL 0.9.8o 01 Jun 2010" and from a custom linux machine with ssh version "OpenSSH_5.6p1, OpenSSL 1.0.0d 8 Feb 2011". I rarely connect from the Windows machines, all of which have ssh version "OpenSSH_6.0p1, OpenSSL 1.0.1c 10 May 2012". I do not update Cygwin on a regular basis. According to /var/log/setup.log the most recent previous update on any machine was May 21; all three were updated on May 14. Attached: Output from "cygcheck -s -v -r" on the two WinXP machines, with minor redactions.
